Position Announcement: Museum Director     

The Hillforest Historical Foundation seeks an energetic, creative, and goal-oriented leader to serve as Director.

Mission Statement:

The mission of Hillforest Historical Foundation, Inc., shall be to restore, maintain, interpret, and promote Hillforest, the Aurora, Indiana home of Thomas and Sarah Gaff from 1855 to 1891.  The Foundation shall provide an educational program to cultivate an appreciation of this period in Ohio Valley history. 

Job Description:

The primary responsibilities of the Director are the management of Hillforest Historical Foundation which includes operation of the Hillforest Victorian House Museum and the management of the Hillforest Collection. In conjunction with the Hillforest Board of Directors, the Director undertakes long- and short-range planning, policy development, budget preparation and monitoring, and development of Hillforest programs and services. The Director manages three part-time staff. The Director represents the Hillforest Historical Foundation in the community, participates in events which increase awareness of Hillforest, expands community outreach, and performs duties which foster donation of relevant artifacts and funds to the Hillforest Historical Foundation.  The Director’s immediate supervisor is the President of the Board of Directors, the chief executive officer of the Foundation.

Qualifications:
Education:  B.A. or B.S. degree in history, historic preservation, museum studies or related field or two years of supervisory or managerial experience in a similar cultural organization. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, demonstrating ability required to support a non-profit organization and manage service for a small historical society.

Location: 
The Director will be based at Hillforest Museum, 213 Fifth Street, Aurora, IN.

 Salary: 
This is a full time, salaried position, salary range $35,000-$40,000 DOE, which requires some weekend and evening hours.  The work schedule is flexible and some duties may be performed from home.
